Netball

Netball evolved from the game of basketball when a sports teacher in New Orleans misinterpreted pencilled lines across a drawing of the basketball court to be zones that players could not leave.

It is a fast, dynamic game that requires good individual skills, agility and team work on court. Netballers expect to build up a strong foundation on skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, shooting and defending. Through the game, players also learn about team work, fair play, tolerance, and respect for one another and for their opponents.

Opportunities are provided for members of the netball team to take part in:

  • West Zone Inter-school competition,
  • Nationals Inter-school competition,
  • various netball carnivals/leagues,
  • friendly games with other schools, and
  • school training-cum-Christmas camp.

In MGS, team discipline and team work are of paramount importance. We are many different individuals coming together to play the game and we appreciate the need to learn and grow as a team. Through tough training and fighting hard for our school in games, the team not only builds up resilience, but establishes ties that take the team through thick and thin.

Netball is not just a beautiful game to play. It nurtures friendship & memories that last a life-time.
